“Cases”
cause changes to nouns, just as “tenses”cause changes to verbs.
This
is a difficult topic for native speakers of English. English
hardly uses “cases” at all. The only trace left of cases
are some pronouns – the difference between “I” and “me”,
“he” and “him”, etc.
“Cases”
are modifications (mostly endings in Quenya) added to nouns to
either:
• indicate
their function in a sentence. (English does this by word
order.)
• indicate
a relationship: “of”, “from”, “to”, “in”,
“because of”. (English does this with prepositions.)
